Richard Mattis

Richard Mattis (born May 12, 1886 in Vienna ; † May 2, 1946 ) was a Viennese archivist.

Mattis passed his Matura in 1907, studied history in Vienna and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He was a member of the Austria Vienna Student Union and a shop steward for the Fatherland Front.

From mid-April 1912 he worked in the city archive. He passed the state examination at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in 1914. From August 1916 to November 1918 he did military service. After the death of Otto Hellmuth Stowasser , Mattis was the senior officer on November 23, 1934, his successor as director of the city archives. He retired on May 16, 1938.
