Leopold Sailer

Leopold Friedrich Sailer (born February 19, 1889 in Vienna ; † April 21, 1944 ) was a Viennese archivist .

Leopold Sailer had been in the service of the Lower Austrian Provincial Committee since the summer of 1911 . From February 1914 to the end of November 1918 he did military service, most recently with the rank of first lieutenant . In 1915 he had passed the Matura at the Landesrealgymnasium in Mödling , studied at the University of Vienna and in July 1921 was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He passed the state examination at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in 1923.

At the beginning of April 1922 he was assigned to the Vienna City Archives. After the retirement of the archive director Richard Mattis , Sailer was initially the provisional successor on June 4th and head of the city archives on June 27th, 1939 on behalf of the Reich Commissioner for Reunification .

From 1925 to 1944 he was also a board member of the Association for the History of the City of Vienna . He is buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery .
