Richard Nelson Coe

Richard Nelson Coe (* 1923 ; † 1987 ) was a British Romance studies and literary scholar .

Live and act

Coe attended the Repton School . He studied in Oxford, London, Paris and Leeds and received his doctorate in 1954 from the University of Leeds with the thesis Le philosophe Morelly. An examination of the political philosophy of his work, seen in relation to the general philosophical background of the Eighteenth Century (published in German translation by T. Morelly. Ein Rationalist auf dem Weg zum Sozialismus , Berlin 1961). Coe taught at the Universities of Leeds, from Queensland in Brisbane , Melbourne , Warwick and was most recently Professor of French and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Davis .
