Richmond (Yorks) is a constituency of the British House of Commons in the county of North Yorkshire . The constituency was created in its current form in 1885 and covers the towns of Bedale , Catterick , Northallerton and Richmond , among others . He sends a representative to parliament.

history

The constituency was represented by two MPs between 1585 and 1868. From 1868 to 1885 only from one. Since 1910, Richmond (Yorks) has been continuously represented by Conservative Party members and can therefore be considered a safe constituency.

Since the general election in 2015 , Rishi Sunak , who rose to become Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 2020 , has represented the constituency in the House of Commons. Previously, William Hague , who served as Secretary of State for the United Kingdom between 2010 and 2015, was also a member of the government who represented the constituency.

The constituency had an unemployment rate of 1.7% in April 2013 . This value was significantly lower than the national average of 3.8%.
