The Directive 97/81 / EC on part-time work sets EU-wide minimum standards for working conditions of workers in part-time jobs fixed.

The directive is based on a framework agreement on part-time work concluded between the European social partners UNICE , CEEP and ETUC . The guideline aims on the one hand to ensure the elimination of discrimination against part-time workers and improve the quality of part-time work, and on the other hand to promote the development of part-time work on a voluntary basis and contribute to the flexible organization of working hours that takes account of the needs of employers and employees.
