Guideline for calculating noise emissions from railways

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The guideline for the calculation of noise emissions from railways , usually referred to as Schall 03 for short , describes the procedure for forecasting noise emissions alongside railway and tram routes, which was specified by the German Federal Railroad at the time .

In connection with the sixteenth ordinance for the implementation of the Federal Immission Control Act (16th BImSchV), the Schall 03 as its second system is part of the regulations of the Federal Immission Control Act . Forecasts according to Schall 03 must be submitted when planning the new building or major changes to railways. This guideline is also a basis for the calculations in the voluntary noise abatement program of Deutsche Bahn.

According to the 16th BImSchV of 1990, when calculating the assessment level for rail traffic, a value 5 dB (A) lower than for road traffic is used. This is known as the rail bonus. Accordingly, compared to road traffic noise, noise protection measures on railways are only required by law if the assessment level is 5 dB (A) higher.

A new version of Schall 03 was published in 2012 . This was adopted in 2014 as Annex 2 in the new version of the Traffic Noise Protection Ordinance (16th BImSchV) and has therefore been binding since January 1, 2015.

As a result of the new version of the Federal Immission Control Act, the rail bonus for newly initiated planning approval procedures for railways has been canceled since January 1, 2015 and for trams as well.
