Specially monitored track

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Germany, tracks are classified as specially monitored track (BüG), especially in metropolitan areas , the condition of the track surface is verifiably kept within a certain tolerance range in order to be able to measure noise protection measures in accordance with the guideline for the calculation of noise emissions from railways with low source strengths, which is usually referred to as "Schall03" to be able to assume the rolling noise . The specially monitored track serves to reduce the noise emissions from rail traffic at the source of its origin.

Procedure

The rolling noise of a railway vehicle is largely determined by the nature of the approximately 20 mm wide running surface on the rail . The lower the roughness of the surface in a wavelength range from 2.5 mm to 250 mm, the lower the noise emission when a train passes over it.

In order to reduce noise emissions, track sections are ground in a special process and regularly checked for their acoustic quality. The check is carried out every six months with a specially developed sound measurement van. If the deviation is negative, the track is reground.

The logs of the six-monthly measurement runs are submitted to the Federal Railway Authority.

Legal basis

The method is based on the guideline for the calculation of noise emissions from railways (Schall 03) . For the area of the Deutsche Bahn AG it was approved in March 1998 by the Federal Railway Authority .

When expanding and building new railways, sections of the route that have a specially monitored track are applied with a reduction of three decibels in terms of noise emissions .
