The guidelines for the standardization of the superstructure of traffic areas ( RStO for short ) are a technical set of rules valid in Germany and are published by the Research Association for Roads and Transport . They regulate the way of the road superstructure for all internal and external roads , paths (except rural paths) and traffic areas and are used for its dimensioning. The streets and paths are classified and instructions are given for new construction and renovation. The current RStO is the 2012 edition, which replaces the 2001 edition. Compared to the 2001 edition, changes were made primarily to the construction methods, the load classes (formerly " construction classes "), the frost impact zones , the representation of the asphalt surface in Tables 1 and 4 and the calculation of the dimensioning stress [B]. Furthermore, in the case of very high loads (federal motorways), mathematical dimensioning of the superstructure according to other regulations (RDO asphalt, RDO concrete) is provided.

content

The RStO are divided into five sections. The first section deals with general points. The second section contains the basics of dimensioning the superstructure. The construction of new lanes and the renewal of lanes in deep excavation are regulated in the third section. The fourth section includes the renewal of lanes in the high-rise . The last section defines the new construction and the renewal of other traffic areas.

In the appendix of the RStO there are instructions for determining the dimensioning-relevant stress (see also construction class up to edition 2001 ) as well as some examples.
