Rick Gates (Political Advisor)

Richard W. Gates III (born April 27, 1972 ) is an American manager , lobbyist and political advisor . Gates was a long-time senior associate and close confidante of Paul Manafort , former US President Donald Trump's campaign manager . In 2017, Gates became a central figure in the investigation into Russian influence in the US election campaign by US special investigator Robert Mueller .

On February 23, 2018, Gates pleaded guilty to the conspiracy against the United States and cooperated with the special investigator as a key witness . In December 2019, he was sentenced to 45 days weekend detention, a $ 20,000 fine, and 300 hours of work for conspiracy and false testimony to the FBI.
