Ricketts Island is an island off Freetown in Sierra Leone that belongs to the Banana Islands . The main town is the village of the same name Ricketts . This was founded in 1830.

Ricketts is named after Major H. J. Ricketts who worked in the Liberated African Department of Sierra Leone after his retirement . He founded numerous villages for freed slaves .

Ricketts Island is known for its beaches and diving opportunities.
