The Ridang monastery in Lhünzê (Lhüntse) district of Shannan (Lhoka) was formerly a monastery of the Kadam school and later became a Gelugpa monastery from the time of the Tang dynasty in the town of Ridang (Chinese 日 当镇). It is located about half a kilometer north of the Lhüntse River or Nyel Chu ( Tib . : gnyal chu) at an altitude of 4000 m. There used to be a Bön monastery on the site , a Buddhist monastery was founded in the 11th century by (Chinese) Kanzhe Riwu Jianzan 坎哲 • 日 吾 坚赞.

The monastery is on the list of monuments of the Tibet Autonomous Region .
