Ridge Racer Type 4 ( R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 in North America) is a racing game developed by Japanese developer Namco . It was released for PlayStation on September 1, 1999 . It's the fourth installment in the Ridge Racer video game series . On June 1, 2011, the original was implemented for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable .

Gameplay

The game is held in the style of an arcade racing game , in which you try to drift around the corners as quickly as possible . There are two different ways to get around the turns: drift and grip. In a drift vehicle, the player briefly releases the gas and then climbs on it again to initiate a drift. With grip vehicles, you have to find the right balance between braking and accelerating. The aim of the game is to win a championship in which a place on the podium must be achieved in each race in order to be able to participate in the next race. As the championship progresses, new vehicles will be unlocked based on their position in the previous race. There are around 320 vehicles, most of which are based on real car brands.

action

At the beginning, the player chooses one of four racing teams: RC Micro Mouse Mappy, Pac Racing Club, Racing Team Solvalou and Dig Racing Team. Each team has a manager who accompanies the player on his way to the Real Racing Roots 99 championship.
