The giant Erla is a famous figure from many legends of the Salzkammergut . One of the most famous is “The giant Erla and the mermaid from Laudachsee”, in which he falls in love with a mermaid from Laudachsee named Blondchen. The legend of Erla and Blondchen reports, among other things, that Erla is said to have built the legendary Ort Castle .

According to legend, Erla was the ruler of the elves, dwarves and all treasures in the Salzkammergut . You can still see the giant's face today. From the village of Traunkirchen am Traunsee you have a fabulous view of the giant head Erlas, which, according to a legend, is stone in the Traunstein . According to other traditions, it is said to be the facial features of the mermaid that Erla is said to have carved into the mountain in memory of her after her death.

Forest nature trail on the Grünberg

An educational forest trail leads from the mountain station of the Grünberg cable car to the Ramsauer Alm on the Laudachsee. Wood-carved figures of the giant Erla, the witch Kranawitha and the mermaid Blondchen are set up along the way.
