Trickle filter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The trickle filter , also Emerser trickle filter, is a type of aquarium filter that is one of the external filters .

Trickle filter

Trickle filters are installed over the basin. Water pumped upwards trickles down from above onto a row of perforated bowls, in which there are different filter materials. The water then drips onto the surface of the aquarium like rain . The advantage of this filter is that the filter materials are never completely covered by water, which means that aerobic bacteria can settle and help break down substances such as ammonium and nitrite .

The trickle filter is complex to install. Today they have largely been replaced by the electrical external filters, which are designed as pot filters. The closest type of filter to it is the sand filter .
