Horst E. Tipper

Horst E. Kipper (* 1940 ; † October 2, 2010 ) was a German aquarist , photographer and entrepreneur . He has made a particular contribution to the further development of freshwater aquariums .

In 1958 he completed his apprenticeship as a zoo keeper with a focus on fish breeding and care at the Hamburg Aquarium , followed by training as a wholesale merchant. a. in the Tropicarium in Dreieich-Buchschlag. In 1965 Horst Kipper took over the zoological department of Hilena , Bielefeld, where he developed the first special aquarium fertilizer (crypto fertilizer), the first CO 2 diffusion device, the first continuous pH test and aquarium heater. In 1975 he published the illustrated book "Wunderwelt unter Wasser" with Peter Wilkens at Bertelsmann Verlag.

His first work dealt with the further development of the centrifugal pump filter for the aquarium hobby . In the course of his professional career he developed over 20 new processes and products, some of which have been internationally patented. Together with Kaspar Horst , he undertook a number of research trips to Sri Lanka , Thailand , Malaysia , Borneo and Australia . In 1969 he called the first aquaristic symposium , at which natural scientists and aquarists met to exchange ideas. He was also involved in setting up a number of large aquariums. In 1972, for example, he converted what was then Europe's largest saltwater aquarium into a freshwater aquarium .

At the end of the 1970s he founded his own company, Dupla Aquaristik GmbH , which developed a number of new aquarium systems. In 1984 he moved his residence to Australia, where he another company that Dupla aquarium Pty Ltd founded. In 1981 Horst Kipper founded the Aquadocumenta-Verlag, in which, in addition to aquaristic books, the quarterly magazine "Aquarium Today" was published until 2001 (editor Kaspar Horst ).
