Kaspar Horst

Kaspar "Perry" Horst (born November 21, 1929 in Cologne ; † June 21, 2014 ) was a German aquarist and publisher .

Horst has been involved in aquaristics since childhood, especially aquarium plants . One of his developments in the 1960s was a synthetic nutrient carrier that not only supplies the plants in the aquarium with iron, but also other nutrients and trace elements. His method of carbon dioxide fertilization in water has been patented . Together with Horst E. Kipper , in whose company DUPLA Aquaristik GmbH he later joined as managing director, he undertook a series of research trips to Sri Lanka , Thailand , Malaysia , Borneo and Australia . In 1976, together with Kurt Paffrath, he founded the Aquatic Plants Working Group in the Association of German Associations for Aquarium and Terrarium Studies . From May 1983 he published the aquarium magazine Aquarium heute and made aquaristics a profession by giving up his position as a merchant in a Cologne publishing house.
