Philipp Heckmann (born July 10, 1959 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German painter who has been working as a freelance since 1984.

Artistic creation

Heckmann's work can be assigned to a style based on realism and surrealism , influenced by painters like Magritte and Max Ernst and naturalistic in detail. In his pictures, nature and civilization enter into irrational connections by linking different levels of reality. Heckmann often depicts grotesque conditions and fantastic scenarios that always offer an inner truth and logic. His collage novel (»Le monde parallèle«) was based on photographs from journals and magazines, which he alienated through unreal assemblies and placed in new contexts. His deliberately ambiguous picture titles often have an effect that calls reality into question.
