Riga Roland
The Riga Roland is a Roland statue in the Latvian capital Riga .
The Roland statue is in a central place in the old town of Riga on the Town Hall Square ( Latvian Rātslaukums ) between the House of the Blackheads and the Town Hall of Riga .
A wooden Roland statue already existed in Riga in the 14th century, but it has not been preserved. In 1894 a new sandstone Roland figure created by the sculptor August Volz was erected. However, the figure standing on Rathausplatz today is only a copy of this figure. The original is in the Sankt-Petri-Kirche . The base on which the Roland stands is designed as a fountain.
