The Right Whale Rocks are a group of cliff rocks off the north coast of South Georgia . They are located 400 m north of Barff Point on the east side of the entrance to Cumberland Bay .
The crew of the British ship HMS Sapho named them Merton Rocks in 1906 . However, this did not prevail because the name that is valid today was already established beforehand. Names refer to English name right whale for Eubalaena , a genus of right whales .
