The Riksettan (actually Riksväg 1 , literally 'The Reichs Eins ' ) was an important road link between Stockholm and Helsingborg from 1945 to 1962 . It was replaced by the European route E4 .

Riksväg 1 has already been upgraded to motorway level in some places. After the road was renamed to the E4, further sections were relocated and the entire length expanded to form the motorway. The former Riksväg 1 now runs partially parallel to today's E4. A few years ago a tourist route was opened between Markaryd and Vaggeryd , which was named Riksettan . It should represent an alternative to the motorway.
