Statsheraldiker
The state heraldry servants employed by the Swedish Imperial Archives (Riksarkivet) are called Statsheraldiker (German State Heraldists ). Until 1953 the Reichsheralds were referred to as Riksheraldiker (German Reichsheraldiker) and were head of their own state authority, the Riksheraldikerämbetet (German Reichsheraldikerswesen).
The highest body for heraldry in Sweden is the Heraldic Commission in the Reichsarchiv. It is used by the Swedish government. The commission gathers legal, antiquarian and artistic expertise; it deals exclusively with public heraldry, i.e. with national coats of arms, municipal coats of arms and coats of arms for various offices, while the Riksheraldiker used to deal with personal and family coats of arms.
No other northern European country has comparable heraldry, while there are, for example, Canada , Ireland and South Africa . In Great Britain the College of Arms and the Court of the Lord Lyon are responsible.
