August Wilhelm Stiernstedt

August Wilhelm Stiernstedt (born December 14, 1812 in Stockholm , † September 20, 1880 in Broddtorp , municipality of Pohja , Finland ) was a Swedish heraldist and numismatist .

Life

Stiernstedt was the son of Major Freiherr Samuel Peter Stiernstedt and Freifrau Sofia Charlotta (née von Gedda). He became a student at Uppsala University in 1829 , where he passed the law firm exam in 1832 and graduated in 1833 for participation in legal proceedings. He then worked as a lawyer and notary at Svea hovrätt and was responsible, among other things, for the judicial review of church expeditions. From 1835 he was Chancellor of the State Office and Deputy Notary at the Court of Appeal, from 1836 also Chamberlain . From 1837 to 1839 he assisted in proceedings at the Upplands court and served in Parliament from 1840 to 1841. In 1849 he was Chamberlain [Chamberlain], and 1852 master of ceremonies at the royal court and in 1855 imperial herald and Reichsheraldiker.

On July 8, 1845, he married the baroness Ulrika Maria Agnes (née Liljencrantz) in Stockholm.

As a member of the nobility , he took part in all the Reichstag between 1844 and 1866. During this time, Stiernstedt was also chairman of various Reichstag committees:

  • 1847–1848 parliamentary chairman of the committee
  • Member of the committee from 1850–1851
  • 1853–1854 member of the constitutional committee
  • Member of the Banking Committee 1859–1860 and 1865–1866.

Stiernstedt made several trips from 1843 and then devoted himself to his heraldic and numismatic studies. In addition to newspaper articles of a heraldic, historical, numismatic and political nature, he published a large number of books. He was a member of the Royal Physiographical Society in Lund (1868), the Royal Science and Literature Society in Gothenburg (1874) and Det kongelige nordiske oldskriftselskab (Royal Nordic Old Script Society) in Copenhagen (1857).
