Melchior Jakober

Melchior Jakober (born September 2, 1851 in Glarus ; † September 17, 1924 in Näfels , Catholic , resident in Glarus) was a Swiss ski manufacturer.

Life

Melchior Jakober was born on September 2, 1851 in Glarus as the son of Johann Heinrich Jakober and Magdalena, born Landolt. Jakober initially worked as a cabinet maker and cabinet maker.

Inspired by Christoph Iselin, Jacober was one of the first in Switzerland to start manufacturing skis. Between 1893 and 1894 he brought about 70 pairs of "Melchior Jakober" skis onto the market. The bindings for this were supplied by master saddler Josef Jacober before he had all the skis made himself from 1900. He also supplied ski clubs and armies at home and abroad during the First World War . In 1919 he handed over the business, the brand had been called "Glarona" since 1904 , to his foreman Jakob Leuzinger.

Jakober was also co-founder and board member of the "Glarner Volksblatt" and president of the cooperative of Glarner master carpenters.

In 1877 he married Josepha Katharina, the daughter of Ludwig Aufdermauer. Melchior Jakober died on September 17, 1924, a few days after completing his 73rd year in Näfels.
