According to Filmbewertungsstelle Wiesbaden , he finds “successful ways to combine the inhumanity of historical facts with Höllenreiner's humanity without provoking a gimmicky effect.” She describes him as “a stylish, well-researched and historically particularly valuable document” and awarded him her predicate "particularly valuable".
In his analysis of the film, Volker Elis Pilgrim emphasized its "quiet unobtrusiveness", which "not only (unfolds) in the viewer with emotion , but (...) also (allows) time to think along ".
