The Rillenstein from Marxen

The Rillenstein von Marxen is an archaeological find from Marxen am Berge , a district of Oldendorf (Luhe) in the Amelinghausen municipality in the Lüneburg district in Lower Saxony .

The Rillenstein has a circumferential incorporated groove, which is rather rare in northern Germany. When and with what intention the groove was worked into the stone is unknown. Its function cannot be determined in more detail either. It comes from eastern central Sweden and got to its place of discovery through an attachment . It consists of rapakivi granite - granite and is about 1.5 billion years old. The basic color of these granites is reddish, caused by large amounts of potash feldspars .

The Rillenstein is located in the Archaeological Museum Oldendorf (Luhe), which is housed in a listed half-timbered house.
