Post circles on Rispebjerg

The Rispebjerg between Pedersker and Poulsker, on the Danish island of Bornholm about a kilometer north of Søndre Landevej, where the Bach Ole Å has cut in a curve in the shale slope that makes up the north and west sides of the castle and almost vertically 15 m to the Au. To the east and south the remains of a wall three meters high with a small moat in front of it have been preserved.

New investigations on the ring wall date the system to the time between 50 and 300 AD. In addition, an upstream wall with a moat and three gates was discovered. From this wall you can almost only see Snaphøj, which was once thought to be a burial mound from the Bronze Age. The trench is filled, but can be clearly seen on aerial photographs. Since 2008 the wall has been backfilled to give a better impression of the size of the facility. Rispebjerg is the largest Iron Age castle on Bornholm.

Archaeological investigations between the ring wall and the rampart have uncovered a building that cannot be precisely defined from an older usage phase, which consists of concentric semicircles formed by rows of piles. Some appear to be double rows. Post rings made of 8–10 large posts have also been found. The dating is at the end of the Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK) 3,000-2,700 BC. Otherwise there were small flat stone disks with incised decorations.

Sunstones

The first "sun stone " ( Danish Solsten ) was found in 1995 at Rispebjerg. In 2017, more were discovered at the Vasagårdsanlage about 8.0 km to the east. The small stones covered with motifs were carved by Stone Age people 5000 years ago. The approximately 300 stones and fragments found on the island get their name from their round shape and the carvings on their surface that seem to radiate from the center. There are also square stones decorated with other patterns. Some are decorated with cobwebs. Over the years a number of sunstones have been found that are approximately two inches in diameter.
