The Festival do Rio (Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival) is one of the most important international film festivals in Brazil and Latin America , which takes place annually in Rio de Janeiro .

The Festival do Rio emerged in 1999 from the merger of the two largest Brazilian film festivals, the Rio Cine Festival , which has existed since 1984, and the Mostra Banco Nacional de Cinema , which has existed since 1988 . Since then, the festival has taken place annually in September and October in Rio de Janeiro. Around 400 films will be shown in the competition. The award is given to the Troféu Redentor , a golden replica of the Cristo Redentor made from film rolls.
