Risto Antero Jarva (born July 15, 1934 in Helsinki , † December 16, 1977 there ) was a Finnish film director.

Life

Jarva completed an apprenticeship as a graduate engineer, but got involved in the film sector early on. He experimented with avant-garde short films and then turned to Nouvelle Vague films. It was followed by films of everyday realism, a science fiction fantasy, a melodrama , a comedy and finally a tragic comedy .

Jarva was killed in an accident.

In 1966, 1968, 1971 and 1978 he was awarded the Finnish Jussi Film Prize in the Best Director category .
