Rittershausen Bridge
The Rittershausen Bridge is a pedestrian bridge over the Wupper and the tracks of the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway in the Oberbarmen district of Wuppertal . It is popularly known as the "Ringelbrücke" or Spindelbrücke .

The northern end of the bridge is on the street of the same name on the right bank of the Wupper, right next to a larger parking lot, which is known as Ritterhausener Platz and east of the Oberbarmer Wagenhalle of the Wuppertal suspension railway . The street Rittershausener Brücke, which is a parallel street to Berliner Straße , leads to the street Höfen in the east and begins in the west at Berliner Platz .
On the other bank of the Wupper, a second bridge construction forms the connection to Heckinghausen over the nine-track Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line . This second bridge and the spur road to this access also bear the name Rittershausen Bridge. The southern end of this entrance leads to Waldeckstrasse (Landesstrasse 726).
history
The place name Rittershausen is derived from an old farm estate, which was first mentioned in a document in the Beyenburg official account of 1466 as a Rittershof . The farm and family name is derived from the name of this location in eastern Barmen as Rittershausen . A Rittershausener Strasse was first mentioned in 1861. The name for the district of Rittershausen, which was renamed Oberbarmen in the 20th century, was only retained in the names Rittershausener Brücke and Rittershausener Platz .
The first Rittershausen bridge was built in 1897, but nothing of this structure has survived, as the bridge was completely rebuilt in 1963. The street Rittershausener Brücke was named on September 16, 1968.
