The Ness nɛs ( Gaelic : Nis niʃ ) is a river in Scotland that flows from Loch Ness to its mouth in the Moray Firth near Inverness . Inverness is named after the river. The catchment area is 1850 km². The river is only 12 km long, but with 300 m³ / s one of the highest mean discharges in Great Britain; it is also a direct continuation of the Great Glen , which stretches across Scotland.
