Roald Dahl Funny Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Roald Dahl Funny Prize is a British literary prize that was launched in 2008 by the Booktrust Foundation in collaboration with the Children's Laureate Prize winner Michael Rosen and was awarded annually until 2013. The award is intended to draw readers' attention to funny, humorous and entertaining children's books and to honor their authors and illustrators.

The prize is awarded in two categories:

  • funniest book for kids under 6
  • funniest book for children between 7 and 14 years.

The prize pool for the winner in each category is £ 2500 .

Around 200 children from schools in the UK are involved in the assessment. Their votes will be linked to those of the official five-person jury chaired by Michael Rosen. The children's thoughts and comments will be posted on the Booktrust website.

The award is supported by numerous activities by libraries, teachers and parents and is intended to promote books that are often not considered in other competitions. The books that have been shortlisted are announced annually on September 13th, Roald Dahl's birthday , and the winner is announced in December. Any children's book first published in the UK or Ireland in the previous year is eligible.

Booktrust announced in 2014 that the award would not be awarded to anyone for the time being and that it would probably only be brought back to life in 2016, on Roald Dahl's 100th birthday.
