Robert A. Holton

Robert A. Holton is an American chemist who worked on the total synthesis of taxol . He is a professor of chemistry at Florida State University .

He studied chemistry at the University of North Carolina graduated with a BSc in 1965 and was in 1971 at Florida State University in Martin A. Schwartz for PhD doctorate . This was followed by a postdoc from 1971 to 1973 at Stanford University . From 1973 to 1978 he was an assistant professor at Purdue University and from 1978 to 1985 an associate professor at Virginia Tech . Since 1985 he has been a professor at Florida State University.

A lot of work on the synthesis of natural products has been carried out within his research group . Among other things, work on prostaglandin F2a, Naredin , aphidicolin , taxusin and Hemibrevitoxin B . Holton is Scientific Director and Co-Founder of Taxol Inc. and President and Founder of the MDS Research Foundation and Syncure Inc.
