Robert Enoch McLaughlin (born February 4, 1907 in Hobbieville , Greene County , Indiana , United States , † November 19, 1978 in Brooklin , Hancock County , Maine , United States) was an American politician . Between 1956 and 1961, he served as President of the Board of Commissioners as Mayor of the federal capital Washington, DC

Career

The sources on Robert McLaughlin are very poor. He was born in Illinois and then lived at least temporarily in Washington DC Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In July 1960 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago , at which Richard Nixon was nominated as an unsuccessful presidential candidate.

In 1955, McLaughlin became a member of the three-person Board of Commissioners that ruled the city of Washington. Within this group he was appointed chairman in 1956. In this capacity he practically exercised the office of mayor, even if this title was not officially used between 1871 and 1975. He held this post between 1956 and 1961. After his time as head of the Board of Commissioners , his track is lost again.
