Robert Garner (* 1960) is a British professor of political science at the University of Leicester . According to his self-portrayal, his research focus is “political representation of non-human interests (...) as a sub-area of environmental ethics . especially the

  • Documentation of the neglect or disregard for the animal rights concept in left political traditions.
  • A defense of the animal rights idea from a left political tradition, taking into account the utilitarian , contractual and deontological approaches
  • The difficulties in protecting non-human interests based on left political traditions with an eye to
    • the cost of liberal societies that embrace animal rights;
    • the influence of libertarian neutrality as a characteristic of a good society;
    • and the protection of human autonomy.
  • The relationship between animal welfare approaches and other political traditions; including Marxism , feminism , ecology and communitarianism . "

Garner studied at the University of Salford (BA) and the University of Manchester with a Masters degree (MA) and a doctorate in Philosophy (PhD).
