Robert Morris (mathematician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert "Rob" D. Morris is a British mathematician who studies graph theory and combinatorics .

Morris studied at Cambridge University (Christ's College) and was a Research Fellow at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge. He received his PhD in 2006 from the University of Memphis with Béla Bollobás (phase transitions in combinatorics). As a post-doctoral student he was in Tel Aviv , Tokyo and at the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) in Rio, where he is an associate professor.

In 2016 he received the George Pólya Prize in combinatorics with Wojciech Samotij and József Balogh . In 2015 he received the European Prize in Combinatorics for his contributions to extremal and probabilistic combinatorics and especially to independent sets in hypergraphs, for bounds of Ramsey numbers, random cellular automata and bootstrap percolation (with Balogh, Hugo Duminil-Copin and Bollobas).
