Life

Roetschi received his doctorate around 1914 at the University of Bern with a psychological thesis on the aesthetic value of the comic and the nature of humor . He was a professor at the grammar school of the Solothurn Cantonal School and private lecturer in philosophy at the University of Bern. Roetschi wrote both philosophical and poems. His volume of poems "Der Schleier der Mutter" (The Veil of the Mother) (1953) was made into a "Cantata for a high voice, mixed choir and orchestra" by Richard Flury in 1957 and performed for the first time in 1966. For Richard Flury's 100th birthday, a CD was released in 1996 with a recording of the world premiere.

The music teacher, choir and orchestra conductor and composer Alban Roetschi (1922–2015) was a son of Robert Roetschi. Alban's son Adalbert Roetschi (* 1953) is a pianist, piano teacher and conductor.
