Robert Sidney Cahn

Robert Sidney Cahn (born June 9, 1899 in Hampstead , London , † September 15, 1981 ) was a British chemist .

He is known for contributions to chemical nomenclature and stereochemistry. Cahn, Christopher Kelk Ingold and Vladimir Prelog proposed the Cahn-Ingold-Prelog Convention in 1966 .

He was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chemistry and from 1949 to 1963 editor of the Journal of the Chemical Society and was then director of publications for the Chemical Society until his retirement in 1965 .
