Robert Verrall

Robert Verrall (born January 13, 1928 in Toronto , Canada ) is a Canadian film producer , animator and director.

Life

Verrall joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1945 , where he worked as an animator under the direction of Norman McLaren . Among other things, he was involved as an animator in the Oscar-nominated short animation film The Romance of Transportation in Canada , which was released in 1952. In 1967 Verrall became head of the English-language animation department of the NFB and in 1972, finally, production manager of the English-language division of the NFB. As a producer, he was responsible for over 100 short films for the NFB until the 1980s. For three productions - The Drag (1966), What on Earth! (1967) and The Family That Dwelt Apart (1973) - Verrall was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film. From the 1980s Verrall was executive producer of the NFB and was involved in various co-productions of the NFB.

Verrall's son David Verrall (* 1948) was also active as a film producer for the NFB.
