Rocca di Manerba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rocca di Manerba is a ruined castle on the rock of the same name above Manerba del Garda on Lake Garda in Italy .

history

Rocca di Manerba 2006

Finds show that people settled on the hill more than 10,000 to 7,000 years ago. Romans then built a temple in honor of the goddess Minerva on the Rocca di Manerba rock . Later the Venetians built a castle on the foundations of the temple, which was used as a fortress by robbers after the sovereigns had left. Two upper protective rings protrude from the medieval fortress. The discovery of the fortress is based on accidental finds from 1955 and later systematic excavations.
