Rocky Burnette (born June 12, 1953 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American musician, singer and songwriter.
Live and act
Rocky Burnette became known through his song Tired of Toein 'the Line , with which he reached number 44 in the German singles charts and number 8 in the US singles charts in 1980. Thanks to this success in the USA, he and his father Johnny Burnette belong to the small group of parents and children who each managed to place in the top ten (such as Frank and Nancy Sinatra ).
This success song was a single from his debut album Son of Rock and Roll (1979), which by his record company EMI America Records Inc. was published. Due to financial difficulties of EMI after Burnette's considerable initial success, there were marketing problems. His second album Heart Stopper (1980) was finally no longer released by EMI, but sold to the MCA . The MCA, however, did not market Burnette's album itself, but released it under the small record label The Goods Records. Due to the lack of professional advertising for the album Heart Stopper and the subsequent single of the song of the same name, these new releases remained largely unknown.
In 1981 Burnette joined forces with former members of the legendary group Rock and Roll Trio (also Johnny Burnette Trio) from his father, who died at an early age. With them he realized his next album Get Hot or Go Home! For the small American record company Enigma ! (1981), on which he sang earlier successful titles by the Rock and Roll Trio and one of his father's top ten hits - You're Sixteen . In 1981, Burnette began to focus more on the European market and with former rock and roll trio founding member and guitarist Paul Burlison , bassist Johnny Black (brother of Elvis' bassist Bill Black ) and drummer Tony Austin (cousin of Carl Perkins ) to tour numerous European countries.
In 1996 Burnette brought out his album Tear it Up with the record company Core Records, which went bankrupt immediately after sales began. In 2002, another album called Hip Shakin 'Baby: A Tribute to Johnny and Dorsey Burnette was released on Rockstar.
Rocky Burnette wrote many of his songs himself, but he has also worked for others, such as Percy Sledge . He comes from a musical family. In addition to his father Johnny, his uncle Dorsey Burnette also made rock 'n' roll and rockabilly history . His cousin is Billy Burnette , son of Dorsey and a former member of the Fleetwood Mac music group .
