history

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory began operations in 1981. The company was founded by computer scientist Frank Crail, who moved his family's center of life to a small town area.

The basic idea of becoming a franchisee of the already established See's Candies brand failed and so Frank Crails decided to develop a similar business concept himself. After the economic success of this company foundation, Crail decided to transport the successful business concept to other cities with the help of a franchise system. In the eighties and nineties nearly 200 branches opened in the USA and Canada . In 2001 the first franchise opened in the United Arab Emirates . Today there are Rocky Mountain sales outlets in Japan and South Korea as well .

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Inc. currently operates 354 stores with franchisees and has expanded its business to include yogurt and ice cream . With its product range, the company is usually geared towards rather high-margin product categories.
