The 3.2 kilometers long Nile island Roda (also Roudah , Arabic الروضة ar-Rauḍa / ar-Rōḍa  'the garden') or el-Manyal ( Arabic المنيل al-Manyal , also el-Manial , the northern part of the island) or Manyal er-Roda ( Arabic منيل الروضة Manyal ar-Rōḍa  'Manyal Garden') in Cairo is part of the Old Cairo district a little south of the city center.

The name Manyal goes back to a prince from the time of the Bahri Mamluks (1250-1390). There is a hospital complex in the northern part of the island. A large hotel, the Grand Hyatt Hotel (formerly Le Méridien ), was only built directly at the northern tip .

The Roda Nilometer

The Manyal Palace , or Manyal for short, still located in the northern half of the island, consists of a large garden and several buildings that were built under Muhammad Ali Pasha . They house various museums: a hunting museum and a museum with Koran inscriptions, Persian miniatures, porcelain, crystal and carpets. The throne room of the palace can no longer be visited due to the risk of collapse.

The Roda Nilometer is on the southern tip of the island. It is considered the most important nilometer of Islamic times and was built in 715/716. After being destroyed by a flood, it was rebuilt in 861.
