Rodney Elton, 2nd Baron Elton (born March 2, 1930 ) is a British politician and Conservative member of the House of Lords .

Lord Elton studied at Eton College and New College (Oxford) . The son of Godfrey Elton, 1st Baron Elton inherited the title from his father on his death in 1973. When the Conservative government was formed after the 1979 general election, Lord Elton became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Northern Ireland Ministry. In 1981 he moved to the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and in 1982 to the Ministry of the Interior. In 1984 he became Minister of State in the Home Office. In 1985 Lord Elton became Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Environment. He left the government the following year.

With the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 , Lord Elton, like almost all Erbpeers, lost his seat in the House of Lords. However, he was elected to the House of Lords as one of the 90 elected Hereditary Peers.

Lord Elton was a candidate for the post of Lord Speaker in the June 2006 elections, but lost to Helene Hayman, Baroness Hayman .

Lord Elton is married to Susan Richenda (née Gurney, * 1937), currently Lady of the Bedchamber of Queen Elizabeth II and descendant of Sir Lancelot Douglas Carnegie .
