Coordinates: 39 ° 0 '47 "  N , 125 ° 44' 54"  O Rodong Sinmun ("Workers' Newspaper") is a North Korean newspaper and the organ of the Central Committee of the Labor Party of Korea . It is published by the Rodong News Agency and is the most widely read newspaper in North Korea. The first edition appeared on November 1, 1945 under the title Chongro ("The Right Way"). On September 1, 1946, the Rodong Sinmun received its current name. By the beginning of July 2015, a total of 24,960 regular issues had appeared. The newspaper appears 7 days a week. Quotes from the newspaper are re- circulated by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and other international media and serve as a source for assessing the position of the North Korean leadership on many topics.

Typical output looks like this:

  • first page: editorials, reports on Kim Jong-uns activities
  • second page: Article on North Korean state ideology ( Chuch'e , Sŏn'gun )
  • third page: economic news (domestic)
  • fourth page: national and international news
  • fifth page: propaganda against South Korea
  • sixth page: propaganda against the USA and Japan

The leading article, in which the PdAK presents its views on various topics and also publishes instructions from the management, is the most important part of the newspaper. As in many North Korean media outlets, there are no sections on entertainment topics such as lifestyle, television, radio, etc. The Rodong Sinmun is primarily supplied to organizations such as schools, agricultural cooperatives and other employers. Deliveries to private individuals are reserved for high officials of the party and state leadership.

Since February 16, 2011, Rodong Sinmun has had its own Korean and English-language website, on which articles can be viewed from January 1, 2011. The editions of the Rodong Sinmun can also be viewed and downloaded there as PDF files. It often happens that an attempt is made to gain access to the computers via open ports. Most current firewalls recognize this and can prevent these attacks.

Since January 9, 2012, selected articles have also been made available in English translation on the Rodong Sinmun website.

The offices and the newspaper's own printing plant are located in the central district of Chung-guyŏk .
