Rodrigo Avila

Rodrigo Ávila (born June 25, 1964 in San Salvador ) is a Salvadoran politician of the conservative Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA).

Life

In the presidential election on March 15, 2009, Ávila, party leader of the ARENA, stood against Mauricio Funes from the left-wing ex-guerrilla Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN). According to preliminary results, Funes was able to win 51% of the votes, whereupon Ávila had to admit the defeat of the ARENA, which has ruled for 20 years.
