Roger Hiorns

Roger Hiorns (* 1975 in Birmingham ) is a British artist who became known nationally and internationally primarily for his installations and objects. His best-known works include works of art in which he optically uses fire or crystals as material.

life and work

Roger Hiorns studied art at the Fine Art Foundation at Bourneville College in Birmingham from 1991 to 1993 and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College , London.

Hions has exhibited his works regularly in group and solo exhibitions since 1997. His first major group exhibitions took place in 1997 at Goldsmiths College in London and at the Transmission Gallery in Glasgow . In the following years he showed his works several times in galleries in London as well as in Germany (Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf) and California, especially in collaboration with the London gallery Corvi-Mora. In 2002 he was part of the Still Life exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago de Chile , and in the same year he also exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Since then he has been represented internationally, including in Japan, China, South America, Spain, France and the USA. Since 2001 he has also regularly organized solo exhibitions, such as Art Now 2003 with the fire sculpture Vauxhall at Tate Britain's Sculpture Court .

Copper sulfate crystal

In 2008, his most media-effective exhibition to date took place in a residential building in London. For the Artangel Seizure project , he used an empty apartment and filled it with 80,000 liters of a copper sulfate solution . Within three weeks all walls, ceilings and the interior were covered with blue crystals. The visitors could enter the apartment and look at the rooms.
