Roger Odin (2011)

Roger Odin (* 1939 ) is a retired French professor of media studies at the University of Paris III and the founder of the semi-pragmatic approach in media studies.

Live and act

Odin received his habilitation in 1982 with a thesis on semiopragmatics . Between 1983 and 2003 he headed the Institute for Film and Audiovisual Media at the Université Paris III. He is considered to be the founder of the semi-pragmatic approach that he developed over three decades. His research interests also include family and amateur films, European documentaries , questions of fictionality and, more recently, filming with the mobile phone .
