The Roggendorf carved altar is a triptych that was created around 1500 in the Rhineland and has been in the Catholic Church of St. Johannes in Roggendorf-Mechernich since 1891 . Before that he was in Kreuznach. The carved altar is a gift from the widow of the mining entrepreneur Kreuser from Mechernich; it was previously restored by R. Hieronymi in Bonn . It was built at its current location in 1891 and has an overall size of 2.35 × 2.80 m.

It shows the Queen of Mary with the Christ child. Mary stands on a crescent moon with a face framed by the apostles Peter and Paul. The other apostles (of course except Judas) are in the wings, along with St. Catherine (with a broken wheel) and the h -piece Barbara to see (with cup). The latter could also be Saint Odilia of Alsace , who is also depicted with a chalice. The unambiguous identification as Saint Barbara cannot be made with certainty because of the missing attribute “tower with three windows”.

The back of the wings show the Annunciation , painted in the Lochner style . Typical of the Annunciation scene, Mary is depicted next to a lily ( Madonna Lily ), the symbol of virginity. Astonishingly, these are in a vase that cannot come from Europe around 1500. The motif: Dragons could mean that it is a picture of a Ming vase. The entire representation can only be seen with the wings closed.
