Principle of the tube conveyor

A pipe conveyor or pipe belt conveyor ( Pipe Conveyor ) is a system that can transport bulk goods over long distances by means of a guided conveyor belt shaped into a pipe . So it belongs to the class of belt conveyors .

In the material feed area, the belt runs like a normal conveyor belt . The goods are fed in as with a conventional belt conveyor. Then special devices close the belt in a tubular shape around the conveyed goods. Compared to conventional conveyor belts, the ability to move around curves means that transfer points and thus material losses and immissions from the bulk goods can be avoided. The conveyed goods are enclosed in a dust-tight manner and can be transported without harming the environment; several kilometers of conveying distance are possible. The diameter of the closed tube can be between 150 and 900 mm, depending on the material being conveyed.

Before the material is released, the belt opens under its own power and the transported goods are thrown off. The belt is then closed again and runs back to the material feed station.

Transport capacities between 100 and 1,500 m³ / h are possible.

Examples

In the course of the renovation of the Wismut site in Crossen (Zwickau) from 1997 to the demolition in 2017, over 3 million m³ of radioactive demolition material was relocated to the nearby industrial tailings facility in Helmsdorf using a tubular belt conveyor . There the material was used for covering. The material was transported safely, dust-tight and environmentally friendly over a distance of 2 km, crossing the Zwickauer Mulde, a federal road and a railway line. With this system, over 130,000 truck journeys could be avoided.

In the Dürnrohr power plant , a tubular belt conveyor with a length of over 3 km was installed, which is suitable for the transport of household waste, coal, biomass and combustion residues from the Danube port to the power plant site.
