Company history

founding

On March 18, 1957, the Rheinische Gruppe , consisting of the insurance companies AachenMünchener , Colonia , Concordia Versicherungs-Gesellschaft auf Mutual , Gladbacher , Gothaer Feuer , National , Nordstern , Schlesische and Thuringia , founds ROLAND Rechtsschutz-Versicherungs-AG as a consortium company , in order to be able to offer their customers legal protection insurance. Both yesterday and today, the products were sold through the respective sales force of the parent companies. On August 24, 1957, ROLAND Rechtsschutz-Versicherungs-AG is entered in the commercial register. The founding fathers of ROLAND Rechtsschutz chose the historical figure Roland , the knight and paladin of Charlemagne , as their trademark .

Development 1978–1998

In 1978 ROLAND-Verkehrs-Service-Versicherung - today ROLAND Schutzbrief-Versicherung AG - is founded. In 1988 ROLAND Assistance GmbH started as a service provider for its own protection letter customers. Today the company offers solutions for corporate customers, but also for third-party customers in the business-to-business sector. From 1991 to 1993 the Aachener und Münchener group left the group of shareholders (1991 Aachener & Münchener Sachversicherung, 1993 Central Krankenversicherung, 1995 Thuringia). In 1993 ROLAND Rechtsschutz acquired the legal protection portfolio of the Deutscher Ring, and in 1995 that of the BKV (Berlin-Cologne Health Insurance).

Development 1998–2008

ROLAND Rechtsschutz establishes a branch in Vienna . In 2000 Albingia Rechtsschutz-Versicherungs-AG is taken over. One year later, ROLAND ProzessFinanz AG is founded as a subsidiary of ROLAND Rechtsschutz-Versicherungs-AG, which finances litigation against profit-sharing. In addition, Jurpartner Rechtsschutz-Versicherung AG is founded, which offers “price-oriented” customers basic legal protection at low-cost conditions. In the course of internationalization, business activities are expanded to Italy (Milan). In 2003 the legal protection portfolio of the Securitas Bremer Allgemeine Versicherungs AG is taken over. In 2007 the expansion of the group continued with the establishment of ROLAND AssistancePartner GmbH in Dresden. The aim of the location is to improve the quality of service and to provide customer support by telephone.

Development since 2008

In 2011, ROLAND bought HDI-Gerling legal protection. HDI-Gerling Rechtsschutz and HDI-Gerling Schadenregulierungs-GmbH now belong to the ROLAND Group. In the meantime, both companies have been transferred to ROLAND Rechtsschutz. Since 2017, the company has been concentrating on its core business "legal protection". ROLAND ProzessFinanz is sold to the process financier Omny-Bridgeway and the client portfolio of Jurpartner Rechtsschutz-Versicherung AG is transferred to ROLAND Rechtsschutz. ROLAND Rechtsschutz has been part of the Axa Group (60%) and Gothaer (40%) since 2018 . The chairman of the board is Rainer Brune.

Sales strategy

There is no sales force of its own. On the one hand, the products are sold through the exclusive agencies of various large German insurance groups - including Axa , Deutsche Ärzteversicherung , Barmenia -versicherungen, Basler Versicherungen , Gothaer and HDI . This means that the agents of these partner companies only offer ROLAND products in the legal protection division. The company uses broker sales as a further sales channel. Since 2015, ROLAND products have also been sold digitally, such as on the website or comparison portals such as Check 24.

Publications

The ROLAND legal report has been published annually since 2010 . This study is financed by the group and carried out by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy . This shows the attitudes of the German population towards the German judiciary and the out-of-court mediation process.
